In this era, the Internet is an essential part of our daily activity. For this purpose, we use our smartphones, tablets or computers. Though we gain a lot of knowledge and the Internet helps us get our job done on time, this has an adverse effect too.
Some time of the other, we may encounter a fake website and may become a victim of an Internet Scam. Today we share a few tips on how to check website credibility or which site to trust online.
- First of all, you need to check the URL of the website. Look out for a lock before the URL or check if the URL starts with “HTTPS” instead of “HTTP”. If you see either of the above, then most likely the website is secured. However, there are many organizations, which offer this service free of cost and without checking the authenticity of the website and its content. Also, you should to pay some attention to the website address. Number 8 and B can be easily interchanged; same is the case with 0 and O. So yahoo.com can become yah00.com. Also, the domain can be changed. For example, “abc.com” can be replaced with “abc.net”.
- Check the content of the website: Another way on how to check website credibility is the content of the website. An official website is pushed to live environment after a lot of research and testing, whereas a fake or a phishing website will not have so many efforts put in. Check for the grammatical errors, picture quality. Also, most of the phishing websites will not have the contact us page or link, because they do not want you to contact them. They need their work to be done.
- What the website wants or offers: Another important question on which website to trust online is what this website is offering. If there is something they are asking you to share, which you will not readily share with an anonymous person, or the offer stands too good to be true, check the website once. This may just be another scam.
Now that you have full knowledge on which website to trust online, ensure that you do not fall prey to any online scam.
